Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. They are prone, however, to punctures. Make sure you have an repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggy - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking stylish.
The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear enable you to move and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and 3 year old and found it coped well with cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it is solid to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is another aspect to consider. It should be large enough for your child's comfort. You will also need it to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that allows your child to lie flat and face you, while others only allow a face-to-parent one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and wet walks. This buggy can be used as a single from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4. It includes a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large padded seat. Storage options are also good, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an attractive pouch at the rear of seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for off-road buggies. They also allow you to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you bump against trees or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which means they can handle many different terrains and are far more flexible than four wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you'll require repair kits and an spare inner tube on hand.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3-wheelers. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and may struggle to fit into narrow spaces. This is an issue when you're using it for an exercise bike or to be able to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. The majority of models come with compact folding options, which let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.
Easy to maneuver
One of the main benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver especially with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels be turned on a dime and are easy to move, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate on rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was especially helpful." I was also impressed by how well it dealt with the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on uneven terrain."
The only downside of this incredible mobility is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean that it will struggle in tight spaces, something to be aware of especially if you live in a metropolitan area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.
